The role

As the Transport Asset Officer, you will be supporting our Senior Transport Asset Officer in a variety of tasks related to roads and drainage infrastructure. This is a hands-on role that is perfect for someone who enjoys problem-solving and working with data. You will have the chance to contribute to the development of our transport renewal programs and play a role in assessing the condition of our assets.

You will help develop and maintain a comprehensive program for transport renewal works, assist in managing and analysing our asset registers, conduct inspections and collect data on transport assets and engage with stakeholders and prepare technical reports that guide our capital works planning. This role ensures compliance with Council standards and contributes to the overall improvement of transport infrastructure in the Mareeba Shire. 

What we are looking for

The ideal applicant will possess a solid foundation in local government infrastructure, particularly in relation to transport (roads, bridges, footpaths etc.) and stormwater drainage. You will have a proactive approach to problem-solving and a passion for continuous improvement, along with:

  • Knowledge of road and drainage construction and maintenance principles for the development of solutions and cost estimates using industry standards and best practice
  • Knowledge of asset management, maintenance management, risk management, quality assurance and traffic management practices for civil infrastructure
  • Sound computer literacy and experience with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, GIS and Technology One
  • High-level written and verbal communication skills, along with good interpersonal, negotiation and conflict management skills
  • The ability to to effectively prioritise tasks, work collaboratively with stakeholders and demonstrate a commitment to delivering quality services to the community

A Queensland Construction Industry White Card (or National equivalent) and a current Queensland C class driver’s licence are essential for this role. Tertiary qualifications in Civil Construction or Engineering will be highly regarded. 

You will be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, Australian permanent resident or have unrestricted work rights in Australia. You must be able to provide evidence that you can legally work in Australia upon request. Mareeba Shire Council does not offer employer visa sponsorship.
