The role
As a Rates Officer, you will play a key role in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of our property and rating system in line with Council policies and legislation and contribute to the efficient processing of various property and rating related tasks and reports.
You will work closely with the Senior Rates & Revenue Officer to ensure the timely issuing of rate notices, manage refunds and adjustments and support the recovery of outstanding debts. Your attention to detail will be vital in processing adjustments, conducting searches and responding to customer requests, all while upholding the highest standards of service.
What we are looking for
We are looking for a detail-oriented individual with a strong background in finance, particularly within a local government environment. The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage with customers from diverse backgrounds
- Proficiency in financial management systems and the Microsoft Office suite, particularly advanced Excel skills
- Strong customer service and negotiation abilities
- A proven capacity to work effectively in a team while managing individual workflows and priorities
- Demonstrated understanding of rates billing processes, ability to interpret relevant legislation and knowledge of the Local Government Act and Regulations would be advantageous
To succeed in this role, you must demonstrate the ability to prioritise tasks, work under pressure and provide administrative support with initiative and sound judgment.
You will be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, Australian permanent resident or have unrestricted work rights in Australia. Mareeba Shire Council does not offer employer visa sponsorship.
