The role
The Welder/Fabricator supports the day-to-day operations of the Water Reticulation team. This role performs a variety of fabrication, welding, maintenance and repair tasks across Council assets and may work closely with other Council teams and contractors. The role also provides support for after-hours works and participates in an on-call roster as required.
The role involves physically demanding work to be undertaken in a hot and humid climate on a daily basis. The Welder/Fabricator must ensure they are and remain physically fit and able to efficiently and consistently undertake these tasks. This includes a requirement to maintain their weight at or below the Safe Working Load (SWL) limit for the seat of the machinery and equipment the position is required to operate.
What we are looking for
You will have demonstrated experience in welding and structural steel fabrication, ideally with experience in the maintenance of water reticulation infrastructure. You will have:
- Strong technical skills and knowledge and demonstrated experience of some or all of the following welding techniques: MIG, TIG and Stick Welding
- Excellent attention to detail, highly developed numeracy skills and a basic understanding of engineering drawings
- Sound oral and written communication skills
- The ability to work by yourself and in a small team environment
- A current Queensland Construction Industry White Card and Queensland MR drivers’ licence (or willingness to obtain)
Trade qualifications in Structural Steel Fabrication will be highly regarded but not essential.
You will be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, Australian permanent resident or have unrestricted work rights in Australia. Mareeba Shire Council does not offer employer visa sponsorship.
