The role

The Fabricator/ Fitter combines their trade qualification and strong mechanical aptitude with their high-level of precision and problem-solving skills to perform tasks essential to the upkeep, maintenance and continual improvement of Council infrastructure. This role supports the day-to-day operations of the Water Reticulation team. 
 
Daily duties in this role will include assembling, installing, maintaining and repairing machinery and mechanical equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation. This may involve working with various teams across Council workgroups.
 
The role involves physically demanding work to be undertaken in a hot and humid climate on a daily basis. The Fabricator/ Fitter must ensure they are and remain physically fit and able to efficiently and consistently undertake these tasks. This includes a requirement to maintain their weight at or below the Safe Working Load (SWL) limit for the seat of the machinery and equipment the position is required to operate.

The position is required to assist with after-hours work and be part of an on-call support roster for the water and waste section.

What we are looking for

This role requires a formal trade qualification with demonstrated experience. Along with sound oral and written communication skills and the ability to work both autonomously and in a small team, the successful applicant will have:

  • A current Queensland MR driver's licence or willingness to obtain one
  • Trade qualification in Structural Steel Fabrication (or similar)
  • Demonstrated experience working as a special class welder
  • Working at Heights and Confined Space training or willingness to complete this training
  • Queensland Construction Industry White Card
  • Strong mechanical skills and attention to detail
  • The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Experience maintaining water reticulation infrastructure will be highly regarded, along with a High Risk Work Licence (LF Forklift)
