The role

Our Local Laws Officers respond to customer requests in the form of enquiries and complaints and have an important role educating the community. As a Casual Local Laws Officer, you will implement Council Local Laws, Subordinate Local Laws and some State legislation to assist in the protection of the amenity and safety of the local government area.

This is a casual position and as such, the hours of work will be on an 'as required' basis that may include weekends, public holidays and after hours callouts. Additionally, the position calls for physically demanding work to be undertaken in a hot and humid climate on a daily basis and includes a responsibility to be and remain physically fit and able to efficiently and consistently undertake these tasks.

What we are looking for

We are seeking a motivated and capable individual who thrives in a team environment, with excellent verbal and written communication skills. You will have experience interacting with customers from different backgrounds, a strong focus on the provision of quality customer service and have the ability to deal with difficult customers and participate in conflict resolution. You will have:

  • The ability to interpret legislative requirements and apply them effectively and efficiently across all aspects of your work
  • The ability or demonstrated experience in educating and informing customers of new legislation, requirements and processes
  • The skills necessary to self-manage priorities, operate remotely out in the field and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of applications, as well as other software relevant to the position
  • Minimum education to Year 12 or equivalent educational and/or work experience
  • A current Queensland C class Driver's Licence

Tertiary qualifications or experience in law enforcement, a current Queensland Firearms Licence, current Working with Children Blue Card, Certificate IV in Animal Control and Regulation, previous experience working as an Authorised Person and prior experience with corporate systems including Technology One, ECM and Map Info are all desirable. 

Please note, it is a genuine occupational requirement of this position to be vaccinated for Hepatitis A and B, Tetanus and Q Fever. The successful applicant may be required to pass a Criminal History Check. 

You will be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, Australian permanent resident or have unrestricted work rights in Australia. Mareeba Shire Council does not offer employer visa sponsorship.
